I remember so clearly the day I told one of my friends about affiliate marketing.
“Is it really free?” she said, “You mean it doesn’t cost me anything to get started, really?”
“YES! It’s totally free.” I replied, “Pick the products you want to promote, sign up (no cost), get your affiliate link and start telling people about it.”
I understand her surprise that affiliate marketing is free.
After all, it can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to start a brick and mortar offline business, thousands to start a profitable website and hundreds to get into almost any direct sales or ‘party plan’ type of business.
Any legitimate affiliate program (like mine at www.marketersmojoaffiliates.com) doesn’t cost you anything to join.
Let me give you an example of how I make money as an affiliate:
By now you’ve heard me talk about my course, WebsiteDesignMojo.com, that I run approximately every three months. During the course I teach my students how to set up a WordPress website. The natural first step is to get a domain name and sign up for hosting. I always recommend my favorite host, Bluehost, and every session I make hundreds of dollars in affiliate commissions. In fact, I’ve got a check for $455 on it’s way to me within the next week or so – all Bluehost commissions.
This works for a couple of reasons:
1. I have first-hand experience with Bluehost and recommend it based on being a customer myself. This is important as my students see the results I’ve achieved with it and the easy choice is for them to go with what works.
2. My students have a high level of trust because they are paying me to teach them the proper way to build a website.
You can do this too. Start thinking about what products and programs you use and have worked for you. For this to work well you must have a high belief in the product and in the company that delivers said product.
Then, surf on over to the websites and look for an affiliate program link, usually located on the bottom of the website or salespages. Then fill out the form to sign up!
