Uh oh… time for another rant

Too many people approach running a business online as something to figure out. They know there are people out there making money and they set out to figure out the secret, to learn the programs they need, to figure out all the steps.

That approach is wrong, so wrong.

This ‘Internet Thing’ is not something you need to figure out.

You’re approaching it backwards if you’re searching for the pot of gold at the end of the keyboard.

It’s time to STOP – and figure out a few things about running a REAL BUSINESS.

A real business is one that provides value to it’s customers.
A real business is one that has cash flow.
A real business advertises.
A real business finds out where their potential customers are and meets them there.
A real business listens to the market they need to serve and adjusts to make things better.
A real business has passion for the people they serve.
A real business checks out their competition.
A real business collaborates with others.
A real business tracks results and improves their marketing.

YOU get the point, right?

Do you see anything in that list about facebook, twitter, traffic, websites, blogging, email marketing, linked in, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc???? That’s because they’re all tools. They’re all means to building a real business but they are NOT a REAL business.

I may get into some trouble here but unless you really love sales and you thrive on marketing then your goal shouldn’t be the ‘marketing’ or the ‘software’ – it should be the ‘business’.

I see so many people struggling with this and I know it’s a phase many new online business owners have to go through.

They have to chase shiny object after shiny object until they have many a disappointment and lose a little (or a lot) of money chasing after that elusive information that they seek.

The only two things you really need to know is how to:
1. Collect Leads
2. Make Sales

Worry about helping people and doing what you’re great at.
