This is a guest blog post by my friend and fellow marketer, Kelly McCausey.
How many sad lonely marketing blogs are out there gathering digital dust on the web? Too many to count. Even among business owners I know personally, people who I know for fact care about building up an income on the net, they own still, quiet WordPress sites. They mean to, intend to – even wish they were blogging. But, they’re not.
I’ve been there. As much as you wish for it, the words don’t come. You’ve lost your mojo and don’t know where to look for it.
Maybe call it writer’s block. Perhaps see it as a loss of vision and purpose. Whatever the case, your blog is key to marketing your business so it’s time to diagnose the problem and find a solution.
What to Write
I’ll tell you right now that the problem is not that you don’t know what to write. If I asked you a question right now you could write me an answer. Right? Yeah, so that’s not the issue.
Who to Write For
Maybe that’s it. When is the last time you really thought about who your target market is?
Pretend we’re having a cup of coffee right now. Tell me about your people. Who do you serve and why? What draws you to them? What draws them to you?
If you’re at all like me, just talking about them gets your a little fired up.
I’ve found that staying in direct contact with my market is absolutely necessary. It’s the lifeblood of all my creativity.
Find Out What They Need Right Now
Take some time over the week to mix and mingle with your people without any agenda. Don’t market. Don’t sell. Don’t make offers. Just be with them. Ask them what they’re doing, what they’re learning, what they’re hoping for – and most of all, ask them what they need.
Give It To Them
Practice generosity with joyful abandon.
Create something (interview transcript, webinar, teleseminar, check list, how to tutorial, etc) that answers a need and give it away on your blog. Don’t worry that you’re giving away the farm or missing out on profits. If you don’t bring life to your blog, profits will dry up anyways- or never come at all. So give, give, give!
Note: If you do all this and your mojo doesn’t come back – it may be time to evaluate your choice of business or market. If your heart has changed about either, it’s going to be rough going to say the least.
Even when your mojo is burning bright, you may be craving extra ideas and motivation for your blog so I’ll invite you to sign up for my Smart Blogging Skills course. I wrote all fifteen lessons to guide a blogger to better content creation tactics and more powerful social media interaction.
Kelly McCausey hosts Solo Smarts, a blog and podcast for Solopreneurs. Smart Blogging Skills is a fifteen week curriculum for new bloggers and those who want to breath new life into their blogs.

What a good article. It is like you were reading my mind. I felt like I haven’t known what to write about or waht to say. I never thought it about it from their point of view. Great article!
