Let’s here it – What are you planning for 2012?
Are you going to start your first business? Do you want to make $1000 per month? Are you working to quit your job? Do you want to hit your first $5000 month?
C’mon and tell me – don’t let me hear crickets on this post! Ok?
Since we’re sharing I’ll tell you that this year, like every year, I didn’t make any ‘New Years Resolutions’ – don’t believe in them.
Here are my goals.
Financial:
What I did was set some very intentional financial goals. As a matter of fact, I picked three products and I wrote out how many sales I’m aiming for and what I will make from each. I set up a spreadsheet to tell me my income should I hit a minimum goal, a target goal or an outrageous goal.
Here’s what it looks like:

Business:
I took example from Denise O’Berry and picked three key words for 2012:
- Promotions
- Processes
- Purging
These words are going to be so important to me in the new year as I promote to reach the goals I set up for myself, I create processes to streamline my whole business and I purge out anything in my business (and my life) that doesn’t fit with my goals.
It’s not January 18th and I’m back with an update (wrote this post Jan.13th)…
In case you haven’t noticed I’m pretty new to planning out goals for a full year! It’s definitely taken some effort but last night what I did was print out a full year of months from Google Calendar and filled in the courses I intend to host based on my financial goals spreadsheet you see above.

This is going to bring great clarity to how I conduct business this year. I will be scheduling all my promotions and my emails around this calendar. One of the great things about this project is that I have been working with my VA to figure out what I can hand over to her this year. I’m really excited that I will be able to hand a lot of work over to her so that I can really focus on what I do best – teaching!
Another item I’m going to print off this week is the 2012 free printable editorial calendar that my friend Lynette Chandler has created. It’s a good weekly calendar to fill out and use to get this plan I’ve set into place done.
Personal:
Well this is still business-related but it’s also personal. I’ve got a goal to get out there and meet a lot more people in person this year. I’m not sure exactly how that will look yet but I need the face to face connections, I love that. I know I’m going to kick off the year by heading to NAMS – a very popular internet marketing conference that I just signed up for last week! I have been dying to go for years so I’m really excited to finally get there (more about that in another post).
Now don’t forget to post your own GOALS below!! Go for it… tell me…
p.s. Need help planning your goals? I’ve also got a handy free resource for you from my friend Crissy Herron of Indie Biz Chicks. It’s a Business, Marketing & Blogging plan for January and it includes lots of great ideas on how to boost your business starting in January. This is a preview to her FULL plan for 2012 that goes right through to the end of the year. (hint – I used her plan to create this blog post!)

I so need to get organized with this. January is turning out to be a bit crazy and I’ve not gotten done with half of what I had hoped! I liked that marketing plan pdf! I really need a week off to myself with no interruptions.

Hey Kim, thanks for your reply. You know it didn’t occur to me that some people may not have had time to plan yet, duh! LOL >>> Most years that is totally me, too. I somehow managed to not work for about three weeks in December so that’s why I took that time to plan instead.
You’re right about needing time off to really get a plan together, I know not having work to think about helped me clear my head and figure out what I wanted to do.
You can still do it, though! Maybe just take 30 minutes a day till the end of January?
I love how you’ve plotted this out through the year, Angela. I’ve revamped my planner to help me stay on track and I’ve determined that some projects need to go…or be re-done. But I haven’t really looked over the entire year. I’m going to have to try that. Great post!

Yea it took quite a bit of work Leslie but I think it’s REALLY worth it. I tried planning out my whole year a few years ago in a similar manner but I don’t think I was quite ‘there’ yet in terms of having an idea of where to go with my business.
This year it was much easier. BUT – something interesting happened when I really tried to put dates into all the projects I thought I could do….. I realized I had planned way too much for the time I had so I ended up cutting out the lower end stuff and keeping the stuff that would make me the most money (and make the most impact for my customers).
If I hadn’t of done the plan I might have spent much of the year working on the WRONG projects and never getting to the ones that would move my business further.
Anyway, let me know how it goes!
I like the idea that we have to organize a lot. The first month of the year is almost at the end and this will be a great time to ponder if we are already on the right track.

Right Lloyd. For this year I’m also actually planning to do my planning in December. I think that’s even better if it’s possible but it’s a busy time of year so we’ll see how it goes!
