Are Ethics Important In Business?
Being in business is tough. Sometimes you need to face decisions that might make you question your ethics and some people may even ask themselves “Are Ethics Important In Business?”
My answer is a wholehearted, unequivical YES.
Ethics are so important to me personally and in business they are just as important. Sometimes there is a line that becomes a little grey when it comes to ethics.
Here’s an example:
I’ve been to seminars where there is a lot of internet marketing hype and ‘you can do it’! To me, the excitement and enthusiasum of the speakers and attendees is awesome. However, there is something about how the events make it sound like you can have a hugely profitable internet business in a very short time that makes me question ethics.
Building a Real Business take time, energy and effort. And sometimes you fail. In fact, many times you might fail! You don’t hear that in all hype and high energy conferences. Even Thomas Edison failed so it’s not a bad thing to fail, it makes us determined and teaches us many valuable lessons:
“I have not failed, I’ve just found 10,000 ways that don’t work”
Thomas Edison
So back to ethics. Yes I absolutely believe in always being ethical in business.
When you sell anything people are automatically suspicious of you. They want to know if you’re just trying to sell them some piece of crap to make a quick buck. And many people are. There are lots of people on the internet trying to just grab as much money as they can from a niche while ethics are not even a thought in their mind.
I even created the Marketer’s Mojo Pledge in order to show my own business ethics.
Sometimes we have to make decisions that may be on the grey line but if we always think about truth, honesty and the trust our readers and customers put in us I’m sure we’ll make the best decision we can at that time.
Of course nobody can force you to be ethical, it’s entirely up to you. I’m going to assume that since you’ve got this far in the post you’re a very ethical person and that’s important to you. Why not do like I’ve just done and let your customers, subscribers, readers, etc know by proclaiming just what your ethics are? It is that important.
