With the new Star Trek movie being out I’m reminded of a time about 8 years ago when I was a trekkie (or is it trekker?) and attended a conference of a different sort.
When I was in college taking Chemical Engineering Technology and Star Trek The Next Generation was still on TV (at least in reruns) my lab partner and friend asked me if I wanted to go to a Star Trek Convention.
She said she goes every year and it’s fun and we could dress up if we wanted to.
I said ‘cool’!
So off we went to the trek convention and it was very interesting. I have to say I’m glad I went. There were Star Trek baseball cards, and star trek portraits, speeches, memorbillia, actors to get autographs from and even Star Trek scene re-enactments (which is where it got a little too weird for my liking, lol).
My boyfriend likes to tease me about being a Star Trek geek but I’m coming to you for the final confirmation.
Does having attended a Star Trek Convention make me a geek?
I say no way!
I also say hey if people want to dress up like Star Trek characters and put on plays that’s ok!
Who knows, maybe I’ll call up my friend and go to another one just for fun.
I used to LOVE Star Trek, both the original and the next generation. Of course as a teenager I had a cruse on Wesley Crusher, the actor who by the way is now on Twitter, Will Wheaton.
I’m also very OK with a Star Trek remake in a whole new way and I’m looking forward to seeing it.
