When you work from home something happens to your butt. It gets bigger and bigger the longer you sit. My friend Nicole Dean calls this phenomenon Computer Butt.
Computer Butt sneaks up on you. So in an effort to ward off this evil plague I’ve decided to take up a few things:
Yoga – I keep talking about this one but I really want (and plan!) to start doing Yoga. There is a studio not too far from me but what I’d really love is to find someone who does classes on the beach. There are a lot of really nice beaches near me that would be so awesome for something like Yoga.
Walking – This is something I have been doing, on and off but I need to get more serious about. I love listening to podcasts on my ipod while I walk so I’m looking for some more to listen to. Today I listened to ‘The Daily Boost’, ‘Zen is Stupid’ and ‘WAHM Talk Radio’ (all can be found on YouTube).
Walking where is live is not only good for body but also soul. While I feed my mind with great podcasts the scenery really is beautiful. To the right is a picture of the path I usually walk.
Drinking Water – I got a decent sized water bottle when I went to toronto podcamp this year so I try to fill that up and remember to drink while I’m working. It helps me avoid snacking when I really don’t need to.
So that’s just a few tips. I know I can’t be the only one who suffers from ‘Computer Butt’ so I’d love to hear your tips if ya got em!
…Now I’m headed out for that walk

Oh Angela, I have been struggling with this for a while. I need to exercise everyday, yet every night, I think “oh man, I forgot to exercise today!”. Can you send over a cattle prod to me?
Too bad we didn’t live just a little closer Christie! We could be walkin’ buddies
I’ve come up with a weight loss idea on my blog which I call the “Butt Wiggle Diet.” It’s especially for Virtual Assistants to reduce VAST – Virtual Assistant Sluggish Tush.
It’s easy – just turn on some rockin’ music, and start wigglin’ your butt
That’s cute Melodee! Yes it’s definitely an issue for those of us who are sitting for long periods of time. I gotta remember to step away from the computer and go get some exercise.
[...] She invited her blog readers to join her in the Fat Loss Quickie Experience and I jumped at the invitation! Nicole is one of my favorite-ist work at home peeps and I’m really excited to be joining her in getting rid of this excess weight, or ‘computer butt’ as Nik calls it (and I mentioned in this post a little while ago).
