me: “Hello?”
telemarketer: “Hello, Ms. Wills?”
me: “Yes”
telemarketer: “I’m calling to say thank you, someone in your home filled out a survey a little while ago and…”
me: “I didn’t fill out a survey.” (Angela’s mental note “and I’m the only one you could have surveyed since I’m the only one who answers this phone”)
telemarketer: “Someone in your home did and as a thank you, you were entered in our draw. We’re calling to tell you you’ve won a gift that’s a $350 value, congratulations! Are you still at XXXXX Lane?”
me: “What’s the gift?”
telemarketer: “Well they’re donated by various local merchants so they can be a number of things with a value of $350.”
me: “I don’t need a gift.”
telemarketer: “Well nobody needs a gift.”
me: “This sounds like a marketing ploy since you can’t tell me what the gift is.”
telemarketer: “They’re donated by various merchants so we don’t always know what’s in them.”
me: “So it’s coupons?”
telemarketer: “They’re gifts, sometimes in the form of coupons and other donated items.” (Angela thinking – yea like pens, upsells, bonuses, magnets and other SALES stuff – duh)
me: “That’s ok, you can give my gift to someone else.”
telemarketer: (now annoyed) ok…click
Moral of the story:
Lie to me in the first line of your fake gift giveaway – I will never believe another word you say.
Second Moral:
Who in the world really wants to sell like that?! I love it that I get to run a business where people come to me because they WANT what I have – NOT because I’ve tricked them into liking my stuff.
