Super Affiliate Handbook Challenge Day 6 – Add Your Content

Today is Day 6 of the Super Affiliate Challenge (click that link if you want to see what it’s all about).

I’m reviewing another Chapter from the Super Affiliate Handbook by Rosalind Gardner and getting more pumped about ramping up my affiliate marketing. This chapter covers Adding Your Content.

Over the years I’ve worked with a lot of people who are new to working on the internet. In that time I’ve seen a common mistake that people make over and over again when looking to build their website.

They fail to understand the importance of CONTENT – and I mean lots and lots of content.

You may haven noticed while reading this blog that my posts are coming a lot more frequently and that I’m giving you a LOT of content. That’s because a static website with just 5-10 pages that never gets updated is stagnant and can never draw the kind of traffic most people are looking for when they come online with a dream and an idea.

This blogsite right here has 245 pages! That’s including the posts which count as pages. Yep, and at the rate I’m going by the end of the year I will have a good 300 or more pages. By many standards 300 pages is a small site. The more quality content I add to my site the more traffic I start to see coming from the search engines.

So – how do you get content?

Rosalind covers six ways to get content for your site but I’ll talk about just two here:

Text Edit

  • Write it Yourself
  • Private Label Rights
  • Write Your Own

I write most of my own content myself for a couple of reasons:
    1) I don’t have the funds for the amount of content I’d like to pay someone for.
    2) I’m too impatient to wait for people to write for me. I like to get it done when I’m thinking of it and in the moment.

    Private Label Rights

You can buy private label rights articles to add to your site as well. This will save you a lot of time over writing them yourself. Private Label Rights (or PLR for short) are articles or content written by ghostwriters. You buy the articles with the rights to use it as your own without having to give credit to any original authors.

What Kind of Content Does Your Site Need?

It’s not good enough to just write content for your site. It needs to create a relationship with your readers that allows you to gain their trust and take your recommendations. There are methods to this that are discussed in the book and one of them is something I’m doing right now – offering a review.

    Pages Your Site Should Have

The handbook also covers some essential pages that many internet business owners and affiliate marketers forget.

    ACTION TAKEN

Well this chapter did give me a lot of action that I could take and I’ll be honest with you (as always) and tell you today I didn’t get it done. So here’s a list of my TO-DO actions that will get completed within ONE WEEK:

-> inventory all my content, audio, presentations and videos into spreadsheets so I can track what has been used where and figure out how I can use or re-use it for my affiliate marketing

-> write a minimum of 3 articles, reviews or blog posts per day to post on or use to promote marketersmojo.com

-> review my content to see what I can update and re-use

See you tomorrow for Day 7 – Monetize Your Site

    1. I do agree with you that content is very important. Good quality content. But I’m actually in a different frame of mind now that you need a monstrous website in order to keep ranked in the SE’s. I think article marketing and building good quality incoming links is just as important.

I have a friend who created a review website (kind of like my plr site) a few years ago, added her reviews, and then spend the rest of that time article marketing. Yes, she has added new reviews in that time, and blogged here and there, but she is making 5 figures a month (on the high end of that 5 figures) with a small content site.

NOW, if you’re relying on adsense to fuel your income, then I do believe you need a bigger site. The more pages you have, the more adsense you have, the more chances your links will get clicked.

Just my two cents on tons of content. Now, obviously if you have a blog, you’ll need lots of ongoing good quality content. That just a given.

Yes I agree with you that there are definitely other ways to get ranked if you don’t constantly add content. I guess I just get frustrated when clients want 5 pages and call it a day. I always make sure to add my input and suggestions when that’s the case and find the best way to get traffic that fits with the client.

Of course some sites don’t need hundreds of pages like you suggested so that’s a great point.
