Today is Day 8 of the Super Affiliate Challenge (click that link if you want to see what it’s all about).

I’m reviewing another Chapter from the Super Affiliate Handbook by Rosalind Gardner and getting more pumped about ramping up my affiliate marketing. This chapter covers Marketing Your Site.

Now we’re getting to the good stuff. Everyone wants more traffic, right?

The biggest dilemma most website owners face is where to get that traffic from and where to start.

I mean there is no end to the ways you can get traffic to your websites:
- pay per click
- search engine optimization
- social media
- social bookmarking
- blogging
- email marketing
- link building
- email marketing
- and the list goes on and on

So how in the world do you know what do to first?

My advice: Find someone who’s done what you want to do and follow their advice. Since Rosalind Gardner has done what I want to do I’ve taken her advice to grow my own traffic (well most of it anyway).

One of the biggest suggestions in the handbook on how to get traffic is by using Pay Per Click. I’ve personally not used PPC much at all and I never did provide it as a service for clients or anything like that. I certainly agree though that it’s a good way to get a lot of traffic if you do it right. There’s also the potential to waste a lot of money so before you even try Google Adwords I suggest you grab this guide and read it to make sure you don’t waste money doing it without any experience.

Something I noticed on page 136 is the suggestion that search engines will drop your site after a period of time unless you re-submit to them. I’ve never, ever heard of this. I’ve also never submitted ANY of my sites to the search engines or had any sites dropped. Not sure if this is old information but I definitely disagree – there’s no need to submit to the search engines at all (unless I’m completely missing something?).

This chapter covers a lot of the usual ways to get traffic, then some secondary ways and then even some offline ways.

I think the last handbook update was in 2008 and there’s not much mention of social media besides Myspace and Facebook. I think Twitter should also be added to that list.
