Twitter Moms Unite Against Anti-Babysling Motrin Ad
By Angela | November 18, 2008

If you’re on Twitter you’ll have heard the backlash that Motrin is receiving for it’s recent commercial about Moms and Babyslings.
The commercial seems like a really dumb move on Motrin’s part as they are alienating the market they seem to be targeting. Some of the comments suggest that the people who put this ad together were doing it on purpose to cause a big stir amounst the market.
The commercial really doesn’t even make sense because I’m sure if moms who wear their babies were actually in that much pain they wouldn’t do it. It’s not that moms are into self-torture or anything. I never really wore a sling or a baby carrier (though I did were one when I went on vacation in British Columbia and it came in pretty handy) so I can’t really relate to the outrage. Anyone can see this is just not a smart advertising move OR it was actually a well planned publicity stunt.
What’s really interesting though is the response it’s gotten from moms. Click on the YouTube ad below and you’ll see moms who have done a video response to the ads or take a visit to Twitter and do a search for #motrinmoms and you’ll see hundreds of posts telling Motrin they suck.
Anyway, this might be one for the marketing and social media history books.
