My name is Crissy and I am the founder of www.IndieBizChicks.com. Angela’s writing a guest post on my blog, and I am writing one on her’s. (Thanks for letting me do this, Angela!)
Many people make resolutions in early January. They resolve to eat healthier, to exercise more, spend less money, get organized, etc. You may have made resolutions like these yourself… But what about your business?
Have you made any resolutions that will help you develop a stronger business this year? Here are a few business resolutions that I recommend:
Planning For The Future – If you lived in Wisconsin and decided to go on a road trip to Texas, it would make more sense to plan your route rather than just driving south and hoping you get there. The same holds true for your business. What do you want to accomplish this year? How much would you like to make this year? Create a plan now to achieve those goals.
Promoting Your Business Regularly & Consistently – One of the questions I get asked a lot is “How much time do I need to spend on marketing?” There is no magic number. Marketing is something that needs to be done all the time. Instead of spending a lot of time on marketing in short bursts (like when you are running low on clients / customers), spend an equal amount of time on it each week of the year.
Learn New Things – When a business owner starts to see some success, they may start to feel like they know all they need to know. New technologies and ideas are always developing and it’s important to learn new things. Would your blog be more appealing if you learned how to add some video or audio? Would learning new copywriting or marketing strategies increase your sales? Of course, keep in mind that you have to implement the things you learn in order to see results!

Great points Crissy! I have to admit I'm not fully finished my planning for 2010 yet. I do have a really clear goal but one of the things I want to really flesh out more is my editorial calendar for the whole year.
I just pushed myself back into the learning stage late last year and it's amazing how much stuff you forget after being online for so many years! Just relearning some of the basics can be a big help I think.
Thanks for the great guest post!
You are absolutely right – when you have been online for a while, it can be easy to forget the basic things you learned.
An Olympic gymnast probably doesn't spend much time doing somersaults, as they can do much harder flips and other tumbles.
With internet marketing, it's important to keep doing the basic things, such as using keywords… The little things really do help!
My struggle is promoting. I just want to write and create and have people magically find my stuff and buy. I do tweet and social bkmark, article marketing and stuff like that, but sometimes I find it so wearing.
I think the key for me is to commit to marketing a little bit every day, and give myself permission to quit when I've had my fill for that day.
Wanna know whats happening in the Real World ??? While we sit here and work http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VebOTc-7shU Look at This
Emily – A little bit every day will make a big difference! Good luck!
Hello. This is kind of an “unconventional” question , but have other visitors asked you how get the menu bar to look like you’ve got it? I also have a blog and am really looking to alter around the theme, however am scared to death to mess with it for fear of the search engines punishing me. I am very new to all of this …so i am just not positive exactly how to try to to it all yet. I’ll just keep working on it one day at a time Thanks for any help you can offer here.
