Website Marketing Strategy: What Does Mine Look Like?

So yesterday I told you about how I totally killed my Facebook account. It was pretty much a quick, swift movement. I had been thinking of getting into Facebook and then I decided against it and had to cut it out. It just was distracting me HUGE and I knew if I kept it open the temptation would be too much and I’d succumb to the people watching, endless photos, invitations, videos, and chatter going on at Facebook.

Now that you know how I’m not marketing my website, you might be wondering what I’m doing to actually get traffic.

Before I share that with you let me show you a few stats from Marketers Mojo:

2009 MarketersMojo.com Website Traffic:

2010 MarketersMojo.com Website Traffic:

January 2010′s traffic is over three and a half times more than January 2009.

My Website Marketing Strategy

Article Marketing – I’ve gone old school on this but it’s really working for me as you can tell by previous posts I’ve made here and here.

Search Engine Optimization – Almost every blog post I write is search engine optimized. I’m constantly on the lookout for great keywords to build more traffic to my website. I also pay close attention to what people really want when they type in something like ‘website marketing strategy’ and do my very best to deliver – creating a good message to market match!

Blog Commenting – There are many high traffic blogs out there that I try to regularly become part of the conversation. Some of my favorites are Lynn Terry’s Clicknewz, Nicole Dean’s NicoleontheNet, Aweber’s Blog, Freshbook’s Blog and Internet Marketing Sweetie’s Blog.

Email Marketing – Now this is kinda going round in a circle because first I need traffic to build an email list. But once I get that traffic I don’t just let them get away. I build emails lists and qualify the traffic through these lists. They sign up for the information they want and I make sure to keep sending them back to my website where they can find exactly what they were looking for.

Video Marketing – I’m not doing this as much as I would like but I have found some good results from video marketing. Again, keyword research is important here. I use keywords to figure out what my market wants and then create videos that deliver on what they were searching for. Then I link them back over to my website.

That’s my website marketing strategy in a nutshell.

It’s working so I just keep rinsing and repeating. I’m looking for ways to ramp up my article marketing as the more articles I can get out there the more traffic I’m going to get coming in. Some possibilities there are:
- more writing for myself
- hiring ghostwriters
- taking on interns

Hope that gives you some ideas for your own website marketing strategy. One of the most important parts of your strategy is that you track your results so you can repeat what works and trash what doesn’t – ok?

Let me know if you have any questions!

    Hi Angela,
I really enjoyed reading your post but what I’m having problem with is keeping my mailing lists populated as writing content which will stick a user attention to reading your e-mail these days is a rarity, I would be interested if you wrote an article on your e-mail marketing techniques.

    Sincerely,
    Your local Toronto SEO consultant
