“Dear Guru, Dear Guru…”

The idea for this song has been in my head since the summer but I wasn’t sure if I was brave enough to do it.

Here’s something I did just for fun, to combine work and play. It’s called “Dear Guru” and it’s a parody of a country song called “Dear Abby” that I remembered from when I was a kid.

Hope you enjoy it!

Dear Guru, Dear Guru …
My traffic’s too low
My internet busines is going soo slow
My friends they tell me to go get a job
Won’t you do a joint venture, Won’t you send me a mob
Signed No Traffic

No Traffic, No Traffic…

Chorus:
You have no complaint
The net is what it is and it ain’t what it ain’t
So listen webmaster, and listen up good
Stop wishing for big bucks and knocking on wood

Dear Guru, Dear Guru…
Social Media sucks
I though Twitter and Facebook would make me big bucks!
I’ve got auto-dm’s and send lots of spam tweets
But my paypal is empty, I’m still not an elite
Signed Unsocial

Unsocial, Unsocial…

Repeat Chorus

Dear Guru, Dean Guru…
You said I need a list
But when I sent daily offers they seem to get pissed
I thought buying those names meant I was gonna get rich
But my marketing efforts seem to be in the ditch
Signed list-hater

List-hater, List-hater

Repeat Chorus

Dear Guru, Dean Guru…
I finally figured it out
Getting rich overnight is not what internet marketing’s about
Just like any other business it takes lots of hard work
And now when my friends see me I can’t whipe off this smirk
Signed Money-maker

It is great to just be myself Becki and to LET GO of all expectations and preconceived notions of who I think people want me to be.

For some it’s easy to be yourself, for me it’s been quite a challenge and a little scary but you know what – I’m pretty awesome. We all are and we need to believe that first before anyone else will.

    Angela,

Had to laugh, I can relate with everything in your song. You did a great job and I will do my part to help make this viral because I think many other new beginners and old timers can relate and this will help them to stay motivated and push on in their struggles.

thanks for the encouragement. We do need to play every day.

  3. Love it, Angela! Totally awesome! Way to just Be Amazing! – and entertain us along the way! :)

Oh bummer! I hope you get it working. I’m not sure what the problem could be as you’re the only one who’s said they can’t view it so far. Maybe you need to update something (flash, java? – not too computer techy so not sure?)

  5. FAAAAANtastic!!

Did I do that in proper John Denver style??

I’m blogging about your cool “debut” tomorrow, which is when I expect to finish wringing the water out of everything in my basement office…

LOL Dan would you believe I’ve never even heard the original song?? There is a video tape from when I was a child and my parents were having a party. A lady (I don’t even know who she is) was playing guitar and singing Dear Abby and that’s how I know the song.

I couldn’t even have told you who sings it until I looked up the original lyrics and chords a couple of days ago!

Funny how people influence our lives. I think that guitar playing lady influenced my desire to learn to play guitar, everyone was having so much fun singing along.

  13. What a fun video. And you get some great points across in a very creative and humorous way.

Marketing is about standing out , being willing to take risks and persistence. You certainly hit the target with this.

    Great job.

  14. Anita says:

    Brilliant! Simply, brilliant!

I’ve got to share this with you Angela …

I came across your video from Dan’s newsletter (Dan the Man Reinhold that is.). My husband was sitting on the floor across the room playing with the dog when it started playing … of course it grabbed his attention rather quickly. (Especially him knowing that I am not exactly the biggest country fan, lol!)

I paused the video and looked at him with my jaw sitting on top of my laptop. I, like Kelly thought you were simply out of your mind!

Of course I had to continue listening (with hubby listening too, lol!) Somewhere near the end I paused it again and told my husband that “I’m wanting to get into doing videos for my biz but this is *not* what I had in mind!”

Besides the fact that I have no singing voice what-so-ever, I still wouldn’t have the guts. I told him there’s not enough traffic available online for me to do something like this! I’d have to be *guaranteed* about a million visitors w/ a guaranteed oh … say a hundred thousand sales!

By the end of the video I said to my husband … Brilliant! Simply brilliant! That my dear is one of the most unique and creative pieces of viral marketing I’ve seen in a *very* long time! (Not to mention the gutsiest I’ve *ever* seen.) And you had fun with it to boot! Sometimes I think that’s my catch phrase!

There’s very few ebooks or reports you’ll see from me that doesn’t say “Remember, creativity is your best friend … and most of all, have fun with it!” If ever there was an example of this … this is it!

I’m a huge fan of viral marketing techniques! (Huge!) I have a favorite creative idea I always mention when giving examples of being creative … this simply being someone creating downloadable/printable coloring pages available on her website w/ her website link at the bottom of each of the pages. Viola! Your website link on momma’s and grandma’s refrigerators across the land!

Let’s just say that example has been topped by a mile and I have a new example to use! I’ll probably refer to this video every time I speak of viral marketing ever again!

(Can you tell I think this was simply a fabulous idea? lol!)

Kudos to you on a very fine job! Creative, unique, gutsy, fun … AND … informative! Keep up the great work Angela!

Sure it would be great if someone who’s had the experience of all the expectations some people put on their mentors. I make fun of it here but too many people don’t take responsibility for their own success and don’t understand that internet business is really a real business.

Of course after a while a lot of people do ‘get it’ and then treat it like a real business. I know I had my own share of chasing the money when I first got started too.
