Hey again,

Over the weekend I went to Wordcamp Toronto 2010. One of the biggest reasons I love to go to any type of business and/or marketing event is to meet new people and reconnect with friends I’ve already met. Some of the people there I originally met at Wordcamp Toronto 2009.

This weekend was no exception. I had a chance to reconnect with Ruth Maude, Dawn Comber, Pamela Weir and Joan Vinall Cox and meet a bunch of new people. I’m sorry I missed day two but here’s a bit of what I got out of day one:

• Food – I’ve got to comment on the endless free food. I’ve never been to an event where you got two meals, drinks and wine and cheese all included! It was pretty cool.
• T-Shirts – I love the Wordcamp t-shirt I got. Last year they were for sale but this year everyone got one completely free.
• Sessions – Of course there were sessions on WordPress. My favourite session on day one was the WordPress for Beginners session. Even though I’m far from a beginner I found it useful to get advice from two ladies who do website design with WordPress, Kathryn Presner and Shannon Smith.
• Success Stories – I thought it was interesting that they added a short session called success stories where people using WordPress got up and shared what they were up to.

One of the things I’m most excited about is the ideas I got for my own wordpress website design business at BlogSiteMojo.com. Listening to the speakers and talking to other website designers confirmed to me how big a need there is for local businesses to get online.

Again, to me the opportunity to be in a room full of people who actually understand what I do for a living is priceless. So thank you to Mathieu Yuill and Melissa Feeney for a great job for putting it together.
