Video Blogging For Confidence?

Some people are fearful of pointing that video camera at themselves because they don’t feel confident enough. I understand, I used to feel the same way before I started vlogging myself.

Video confidenceBut – something funny happened after I started making videos. My confidence grew and grew. Just making the videos helped my confidence and then getting great compliments was an extra bonus.

I was just reading through some blogs yesterday and came upon a post at Simple Vlogging Tips that I thought perfectly described how vlogging can help your confidence and can be an actual self-improvement tool.

Here’s a portion of what Jendi, the author, wrote:

Here are 8 ways that video blogging has helped me:

1. I’m more conscious of my looks. It’s not as bad as when I was a teenager and didn’t go anywhere without a comb/brush; but it’s so-o much better than when my kids were babies and I couldn’t even find my brush. After all, I never know when I will want to capture the moment on video. If it’s a good moment of course I’ll want to share it.

2. This leads me right into the clothes category. While I’m not, never have been, and probably never will be a fashionista I’m more careful with my clothes. I think about colors that compliment me and look well on camera. I stopped wearing the t-shirts that I got in high school. Some days I plan my clothes so I don’t have to change to make a video and some days it’s just a possibility.

3. Video blogging gives me a reason to exercise and watch what I eat. I did so much better with a diet when I was pregnant and had a big incentive [also known as L&D] to watch what I ate. Knowing that I’m putting a video out there for the world to see gives me motivation. I’m in no way saying that you have to be a certain size to vlog; I’m saying that it’s something I think about.

I encourage you to read the rest of the post here and leave Jendi a comment!

  1. I felt the same exact way when I was making videos, Angela! Nervous at first and then just began to have more and more fun and get more and more confident! I think I’m going to have to start all over again when I get my broken camera fixed, but, maybe I’ll get lucky and it will be a quicker ‘confidence-learning curve’ since I’ve already done it before! That’d be cool!

Hey! Yea it’s been too long since I’ve made videos too. I’ve got to get back into the habit. I found the article on Jendi’s blog and asked her if I could share here, it just made so much sense to me!

  2. Jendi says:

I’m so glad you shared the article! Thank you.

I had no idea when I started video blogging that it would help me grow as a person. Now I really miss it if I go for more than a couple days without vlogging.

      Hi Jendi,

You’re so welcome and as I said on your blog I just loved it.

Also I love your vlog itself. It’s been fantastic to see how you’ve grown in your video capabilites and your confidence. You are just so authentic and it really shows, that’s the kind of business model I wish for everyone – true authentic marketing so you can really be yourself :)
