There are literally thousands upon thousands of WordPress themes to choose from for your website or blog.
Personally, when I find a theme or two that I like I tend to stick with them across all sites. It’s a matter of using my time wisely. I build a lot of sites and if I had to learn a new theme every time I built a site it would take a lot less time than becoming familiar with one theme and using that.
Lately my favorite theme to use on all sites and blogs is Wp-Remix.
It’s by no means a perfect theme, but with over 50 different page options it is super flexible. It’s quite a bit more complicated to use than a regular theme so if you’re a new WordPress user I don’t recommend starting with the WP-Remix theme.
Here are some of my favorite themes in no particular order:
WpRemix - Like I said with over 50 page options you can’t really beat the flexibility of this theme. I’m not really happy with the color selections and how difficult it is to figure out how to change colors on different headings, etc.
iThemes – I love the themes Cory Miller comes out with because they are clean, simple and easy to edit! iThemes also has an excellent tutorial area where you can find links to great plugins, information on setting up your blog and all kinds of ways to customize it.
StudioPress Themes – These are a great set of themes from Brian Gardner.
Solostream Themes – There are a few magazine style themes here.
NewsPixel – A Newpaper theme that’s nice.
WooThemes – Woo themes are a popular group of themes that are nice and professional looking.
All the themes I listed above are premium (paid) themes. After years of working with wordpress I usually prefer the premium themes as they usually have more of a ‘website’ as opposed to a ‘blog’ look.
If you are looking for a blog there are so many free themes to choose from.
Here’s my best tip for blog theme hunting:
- LOOK at the FOOTER
On the bottom of most themes there are credits in the footer. I have no problem giving credit to a blog designer but it’s a bit ridiculous when there are two, three or even four links in the footer that are obviously just there for link love from Google.
I stay away from any footers that have more than two links in theme and I also stay away from themes who’s links have nothing to do with the designer’s site.
Good luck in your search for the perfect theme and make sure you come back to post a comment so we can check out your new blog!
Angela
