For Christmas my son got the movie Kung Fu Panda from my parents and by god we have watched it at LEAST 50 times since then!
Yes, I know all about Po, the young Panda who dreams of being a Kung Fu master and a member of the well-respected Furious Five.
There are a few interesting quotes from the movie, like when Master Ooguay repeats over and over that “There are no accidents” and when he tells Po – “Noodles, Don’t Noodles. Quit, Don’t Quit”
But what really catches my attention is the Dragon Scroll. By some odd twist of circumstances Po is fated to be the ‘Dragon Warrior’, a high honor that the members of the Furious Five were a no-contest to win. Po has absolutely no experience in Kung Fu, he’s fat, he’s clumsy and he just doesn’t seem like he’ll ever be Dragon Warrior material.
Po’s trainer tells him that once he’s ready the Dragon Scroll will tell him all he needs to know to defeat Tai Lung (Master Shifu’s former star student turned bad). So Po works harder than he’s ever worked before, he listens to everything Master Shifu tells him and he’s ready to have the wisdom of the Dragon Scroll bestowed upon him. Then he’ll learn the SECRET to defeating Tai Lung and being a true master of Kung Fu.
Po opens up the scroll and sees nothing but his reflection.
He didn’t get it at first, it took quite a while to sink it but finally Po realizes there is no secret. The Dragon Scroll was only given to those who were ready to see it, when they were ready to see it and understand that it’s meaning.
Search for the secret all you want, but it’s not there. The answer lies in YOU.
See the parallel to business and marketing here?
So many people spend way too much time searching for the secret formula, the quick way to riches, the easy way out but it’s not there. The success comes from you, by you.
The more time I’ve spent in the last year looking inward instead of searching outward and trying to copy others the more success I’ve seen. The better I’ve understood myself the more money I’ve started to make.
That’s what Marketer’s Mojo Talk Radio, this blog and my new business focus is all about. It’s about creating a business that really represents YOU and shows YOU to the world. It’s not about tricks and tactics, about telling you MUST learn everything I know and buy everything I have to sell – it’s about finding a way to let YOU shine through in everything you do in business so that you create your best work and live your best life.
It took me a while to get here, and like Po I thought I might not make it but persistence pays off and I am starting to see the business I really love unfold and I know you can do it too!
The secret is… there is no secret.

I love that part of the movie too. And it can fit in so many parts of our lives. Business, personal, etc. The secret is US and what WE do with it. That’s what counts.
A, thanks for this post. Very timely for me. Last few days my head’s been filled with doubt about a new business – a HUGE new business I want to launch. One moment I’m telling myself “it’s ok, you can do it” and then the next panic sets in and I’m thinking… “what the heck made you think you could pull this off?” Thoughts and doubts I’m sure many new entrepreneurs have. Your post reminded me to pay more attention to what I want to do and not worry so much what the competition is doing and if I break the tasks into bite-size pieces and chew them one at a time, with persistence, anything is possible. Thanks. ~d.

So glad you liked the post Shannon and Deb. It’s tough admitting that we are actually responsible for where we are at this very moment. I know for me for a long time I thought I was just missing some ‘piece’ that would make it all easy but I now know that’s totally untrue and that everything I need is already available to me, I just need to use it!
