Over the weekend I went to Wordcamp Toronto 2010. One of the biggest reasons I love to go to any type of business and/or marketing event is to meet new people and reconnect with friends I’ve already met. Some of the people there I originally met at Wordcamp Toronto 2009.
This weekend was no exception. I had a chance to reconnect with Ruth Maude, Dawn Comber, Pamela Weir and Joan Vinall Cox and meet a bunch of new people. I’m sorry I missed day two but here’s a bit of what I got out of day one:
Food – I’ve got to comment on the endless free food. I’ve never been to an event where you got two meals, drinks and wine and cheese all included! It was pretty cool.
T-Shirts – I love the Wordcamp t-shirt I got. Last year they were for sale but this year everyone got one completely free.
Sessions – Of course there were sessions on WordPress. My favourite session on day one was the WordPress for Beginners session. Even though I’m far from a beginner I found it useful to get advice from two ladies who do website design with WordPress, Kathryn Presner and Shannon Smith.
Success Stories – I thought it was interesting that they added a short session called success stories where people using WordPress got up and shared what they were up to.
One of the things I’m most excited about is the ideas I got for my own wordpress website design business at BlogSiteMojo.com. Listening to the speakers and talking to other website designers confirmed to me how big a need there is for local businesses to get online.
Again, to me the opportunity to be in a room full of people who actually understand what I do for a living is priceless. So thank you to Mathieu Yuill and Melissa Feeney for a great job for putting it together.
You’re supposed to grow up, go to university, get a ‘good job’ and ‘work hard’ until you’re like 65 – THEN you can retire and enjoy life.

BA.LO.NY!
I was just reading a post by Alice Seba on Melissa Ingold’s Internet Marketing Sweetie Blog. Alice was talking about the post series Melissa has been writing about Working Less & Earning More.
We tend to associate working more with earning more but that doesn’t have to be true. I know I’ve fallen into that trap a time or two and I’ve worked with many clients who were working their buts off and even putting their health at risk.
Here is something that Alice said in the post and I wholehearted-ly agree:
You gotta admire Melissa and all that she’s accomplished. She’s the mom of 3 and is fighting daily to get appropriate medical care for her littlest one who has been diagnosed with a very rare disease. You can bet she’s got a lot on her plate, but she seems to manage it flawlessly and with zero complaint. This gal has her priorities in order.
I’m going to be going back over Melissa’s posts with a fine-tooth comb to see how I can work smarter, not harder.

Hi again!
Just a couple of days ago I mentioned how I’m coming up on three years working from home full time. It’s been a wild ride and I love being able to pick up and work whenever and whever I want.
That’s exactly what I want to talk about today.
Is It Lonely Working From Home?
For the first couple of years I spent all my time working on my home computer, which resides in the corner of my living room. Then I got myself a laptop and thought it was awesome that I could work from the couch, from the kitchen or while sitting out on the porch on a sunny day.
That was enough in the beginning.
But now, three years into working from home I realize how very isolating it can be. The only people I was seeing were my parents (who’s apartment I live in), my son and my boyfriend. While I love them all I believe we really need a LOT more human interaction than that.
So this year I did something about it!
Here are my tips and ideas on how to bust through work at home lonliness whlie keeping up productivity:
- Work somewhere else – Yea seems simple enough but sometimes we think it’s harder than it actually is to be mobile with our business. I do a number of services for clients including website updates, affiliate management, email marketing and more and I thought it would be just too hard to organize that all and take it on the go. Well, Roboform and a simple USB drive later my netbook is loaded with days work at the library, the coffee shop or even at a friend’s house.
- Get Networking – I love going to a monthly networking group I belong to for women. It’s not even really to me about making money. I just love getting out and getting to chat with people who can relate to the joys and struggles of being a business owner. If you’re interested in checking the group out it’s called WINGS. Of course I also love getting out to conferences and seminars too like my recent trip to Podcamp Toronto.
- Connect Via Phone – I’ve made some great friends at networking events and conferences and I love to connect with them via phone to catch up and talk business too. It’s a great way to get ideas and share stories with people who really get it. You could also add a phone component to your current business if you want more people to talk to. Schedule conference calls or teleseminars to share your expertise and talk with real live human beings all at the same time! There you have some of my best tips for beating the work at home blues.
Hey blog readers!
You’re in for a treat today. I managed to snag Nicole Dean, master internet marketer and all around awesome lady, for an interview on using Private Label Rights (PLR) content. You’ll want to check this out if you’ve been struggling to find the time to create enough content for your websites, blogs, email marketing and more…
Hi Angela,
Thanks for asking me here today. You and I have known each other for a number of years and have worked together, too, so this is a fun stop on my guest blogging adventure.
You sent me four questions for this interview to help beginners understand PLR and how it can help them in their online businesses.
The first question you asked me is “What is PLR Content?”
First of all PLR stands for “Private Label Rights” content, such as articles. In fact, articles are just what we’ll focus on today since that’s where most beginners start with PLR.
Here’s a quick video that’ll help explain.
In a nutshell, PLR articles are articles that you can purchase very inexpensively from a site like mine (EasyPLR.com – link with your aff link) and then use them in your online business as a shortcut, to save you time, and establish you as an expert.
At EasyPLR.com I hire highly-skilled writers to create a series of 5-10 articles on a topic, like Pregnancy or Social Media, and then our editors review the articles and improve them by adding more ideas and value. Then, we sell the pack of articles to around 100 website owners.
BUT – the best part about PLR is that you can edit it. You’ll get the articles in both .doc format and .txt format so you can tweak them and add some of your ideas and experiences to them, and use them in a variety of ways in your online business.
The next question is “Who can benefit from PLR?”
That’s a great question, Angela. Actually pretty much anyone with an online presence can benefit by using PLR.
Some of my customers are…
* Bloggers.
* Affiliate marketers.
* Virtual Assistants.
* Authors or those who wish to be.
* Podcast owners.
* Infoproduct Sellers.
* Membership Site Owners.
* Coaches.
* Consultants to Offline Businesses.
* Network Marketers/Direct Sellers.
Pretty much anyone who has a website or blog or who assists someone who has an online business, can benefit from using PLR.
The third question was “Will readers know they’re not getting 100% original content and be turned off from reading?”
There are two parts to that question.
1. If the articles are quality, readers will be happy. Honestly, people look for a few things when they’re surfing the web. They want to be educated, entertained, or enhanced in some way. So, as long as you’re buying PLR that accomplishes at least one of those goals, you’ll be good.
2. I always recommend that you add some of your own personality and experiences to the PLR that you purchase from my site EasyPLR.com. That will ensure that no other customer of mine will have the same article, because yours will have you in it.
We’ll wrap up with the final question “How do I know if I’m buying high quality PLR content to use on my sites and not junk?”
That’s another great question, Angela. There are several things I recommend when shopping for PLR.
Check out who is running the site.
I’ve seen PLR sites that have no name or face on them. That scares me. Heck, I wouldn’t buy a purse from a website that didn’t earn my trust. Why would I purchase articles that will represent me in my online business from a nameless & faceless company? I wouldn’t.
Find out the reputation of the company.
Ask around. For instance, EasyPLR.com has been selling PLR to repeat customers since 2006, and that’s a fact that makes me very proud. When I notify my customers that new PLR is available, I get a surge of orders – and I recognize many of the names because they’ve been buying my PLR for years.
Are they writing their own content or recycling?
Some PLR sites buy content from “wholesalers” and then resell it as their own. While that’s a legitimate business model, you’ll want to know if the site has their own writers, or if you’re buying content that’s being sold by multiple PLR sites on the web. At EasyPLR.com, I work with a team of writers and a team of editors to provide unique PLR content that is only available at my site.
While sharing is a good thing in Kindergarten…
Find out exactly how many others will have access to the exact same content that you’re buying. Some sites put absolutely no limit on the number of customers they’ll sell their PLR to. That means that you could be competing with thousands of other web site owners who have the exact same articles. While that’s not a deal-breaker for me, it’s something to consider.
Again, thanks, Angela, for inviting me here. I hope that this helps your readers to benefit from PLR. Please let me know if there are questions and I’ll swing back to respond.
