Why WordPress? 7 Reasons WordPress is Best!

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

When I created my first website I did it from ‘scratch’. That means I hand-coded every line of the site in HTML coding. It was time-consuming, pain-steaking and some times down right frustrating.

Many years have passed and these days getting your website up is NOT the hard part. WordPress makes it very easy to get a site up in a matter of minutes (I timed myself one day and had a site up and ready to post to in 10 minutes!)

Sure there are still older, more costly and more complicated ways of buidling a website but why bother when wordpress is ALL you need? Read More→

How to Make a Website That Sells

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

When an artist puts brush to canvas they know what they’re about to make. A good artist will also know exactly what emotion they want to evoke in the piece they are creating.

Your website must be the same way in order to make sales.

Before you put together a website you need to know what you want to do with it. In order to know what to do with your website you must know the market you are about to serve.

If you don’t know who your market is then it’s time to go back and do some digging. The key is to serve a market with a need. Don’t just start a website on a topic just because you like it, make sure people need your products, services or recommendations before you put your heart and soul into a new business.

So we’ve got that out of the way and you know exactly who your target market is. Now it’s time to create a website that is designed around that market.

Here are some ‘staple’ pages that many websites have:
- About
- Contact
- FAQ
- Products
- Services
- Articles
- Media

The pages your website has again will be built around your site’s objective.

Call to Action is KEY

One of the biggest mistakes I see website owners make is believing that content alone is enough to make people buy. You need not only to provide fantastic content, but you must craft the content to call your readers to take ACTION.

How to Make a Website

So you know your target market, you know what action you want them to take and now you need to figure out how to create that website.

How About WordPress?

If you have been marketing online for any period of time you may have heard people raving about the open source (FREE!) program that is most commonly know for blogging.

Here’s a quick list on why you should use WordPress as a Website:
- Easy three-click installation
- Create a professional looking site using thousands of available free and premium templates
- Update your own website once you learn how to use wordpress
- Log into your website from anywhere and make changes on the fly
- WordPress is free, no expensive software to buy or update
- Create user accounts to allow multiple authors or editors
- House a website and blog all in one software program
- Web pages will be automatically structured for search engine optimization
- Use the programs media function to upload and link to photos, documents and files without hassle

I’ve been creating my own websites since 1999 and I can’t imagine not having the control to update and create my own websites and marketing whenever I need to.

Even if you plan on outsourcing the bulk of your website creating, updating and maintenance it’s still important that you understand the system your site will be built in. Knowing exactly what to outsource will save you time and plenty of money.

Overall WordPress is simply a great program for both website design and blogging.

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

004_30Short Answer – yes.
Realistic Answer – no.

If you have to ask the question ‘Can I host my own website on my computer‘ then it’s probably in your own best interest that you don’t attempt to do so. That is of course unless you’re up for a big challenge and a lot of time invested. Read More→

Interview with a Blogger – The Crunchy Coach

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

blogging example

This summer, I got an email from Emily Jacques. Emily had taken my mini-course at BlogSiteMojo.com and emailed me with a question.

I love it when I get questions!

Of course I emailed Emily back and we got to chatting. Emily is new to blogging and is already seeing some results. So I asked her if I could interview her for the blog here at Marketers Mojo.

You see, often you hear from people who’ve had HUGE successes and been doing this for years but I know a lot of people are just starting out and they want to hear from others like them.

Emily may be just like you. She’s got a great story and a really great blog. I love how Emily blogs in a conversation style and she’s just real. You’ll definitely want to check her out at TheCrunchyCoach.com/Blog

And here is the interview. Hope you enjoy it! Read More→

How to Use WordPress Auto Install on Bluehost

Monday, October 5th, 2009

I use Bluehost and WordPress auto install for almost all of my websites. Here’s a quick video to show you how easy it is to get the software up and running in less than 5 minutes :)

Over the years I’ve worked with hundreds of small business owners. Time and again the biggest problem most people face is getting a website up that they can use themselves. Most of the time, WordPress is their solution.

WordPress is a blogging software that can be hosted on your server. That means that Read More→

You’ve probably seen the original ‘smiley’ show up on WordPress blogs fairly often. It’s built into the WordPress system (the blogging software this blog is built on).

But did you know if you run a wordpress blog you can make a whole host of other smileys show up?

I grabbed this image from WordPress.org to show you what I mean: Read More→

How to Start Your Own Blog

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

Ready to start your own blog?

There are so many benefits to blogging. A properly designed blog will increase your chances of getting great search engine traffic, it will allow you to establish your expertise in your niche and to create a community to grow your business around.

But first you’ve got to get one going, right?

Well, you’ve got choices:
- Blogger
- WordPress
- Typepad

The three blogging platforms above are three of the most popular choices for blogs.

I absolutely URGE you to choose WordPress for your blog. I’ll go into why in another post but suffice to say after five years of blogging I believe it to be the absolute best choice for you blogging needs.

Here’s how you get that blog set up:

Step 1 – You Need Hosting with Cpanel:
Get hosting that includes Cpanel and an easy WordPress install program such as ‘Fantastico’ or ‘Simple Scripts’. If this makes no sense to you just ask your potential host if they have either of those programs and they’ll know what you mean.

Recommended Host – Sign up for Reliable Webs Hosting and you’ll get your Blog Installed completely FREE. I’ve not seen ANY OTHER HOST to do that.

Step 2 – You Need a Domain Name:
I believe in doing it right the first time so go get yourself a domain name for $10 and set your blog up right. You can get a domain name through your host or through somewhere like GoDaddy.com.

Step 3 – Install Your Blog
Ok, you’ve got your hosting and you’ve got your domain. Now you need to install the blog. It sounds complicated but it’s really not that hard! Find a good host and they’ll help you set it up if you have any questions.

Step 4 – Customize Your Blog:
You’ll probably want to do a few things to your blog such as customize the colors a little, add a header that suits your business or topic, add links to social media such as Twitter, Facebook, etc. To do this takes a more advanced understanding of the programing language of the blog, php and css. If you don’t know these languages, you can hire us at Blog Site Mojo to customize the blog for you.

Step 5 – Fill Your Blog With Relevant, Targeted, Quality Content:
Write content that people are looking for and that is targeted to your blogs purpose. A good example is this post. It’s fill with high-quality information and serves the purpose of letting you know what you need to get your blog up and running quickly and easily. That’s what our site is all about.

Once you’re blog is set up and running your next step is to make sure that effort is put to great use.

Decide with a clear set of goals what you want to use your blog for. Will it be to draw traffic to a service? To make money through affiliate marketing? To sell your own products? Or a bit of all of the above.

Set your goals, stick to them and you’ll start to see your efforts pay off as you build a blog that people love to come back to again and again.

How to Keyword Optimize Your WordPress Posts

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008
YouTube Preview Image

I absolutely love wordpress for websites! It makes things so easy and allows you to optimize your pages and posts in just a few clicks. This video is a follow-up to the post I did the other day about how to find keywords in your niche for long tail traffic.

Watch for my stats at the end of this month and you’ll really see how this works and why you need to do this on every post.

I can’t say this enough but for too many years I ignored keyword research and understanding the search engines – it was a stupid mistake and I hope you can learn from my mistakes and start out your websites, blogs and content the right way!
